This week turned out to be a mix of work, family, and fun, and honestly, a little bit unexpected. My original plan was to spend the week working on GrabFood to earn some money and get to know Kuala Lumpur a bit better. The first two days went smoothly, I was out there hustling, and I actually got to explore more of the city. Things were going well until Monday, when I got a call from my sister. She told me that there was a family gathering and dinner planned at home. Since my classes were online this week, I decided to head back to my hometown in Mersing to join the event.
The bus ticket was pretty pricey since it was Chinese New Year, but I didn’t mind. I figured it was important to respect the family event, so I booked a ticket and left on Monday night. By the time I got to Mersing on Tuesday morning, I was exhausted, but happy to be home. I asked my sister to pick me up from the bus terminal, and after greeting everyone, I settled in with my family.
Even though I was back in my hometown, I kept up with my online classes. The family gathering wasn’t until Thursday, so I had a few days to enjoy my time with my hometown friends. On Tuesday, I spent the day chatting with one of my old friends at my parents' restaurant. We ate, swapped stories, and just caught up, it was really nice to reconnect like that. On Wednesday night, we hit the badminton court for some friendly competition. It was a blast! Even though some of the games were a bit challenging, it was all about having fun with friends, and that’s what made it special.

Then came Thursday, the day of the family gathering. In the evening, I helped my parents at their restaurant, then we all pitched in to cook for the event. We made a huge spread consisting of yong taufu, cocktails, meatballs, lamb, and beef. It took about 40 minutes to prep everything, but it was all hands on deck, and the food turned out amazing. We ate, chatted, and watched a movie together, making it a long, fun night.
After dinner and cleaning up, my friends, my brother, and I decided to play futsal. We spent the next two hours having a blast, so many funny moments, and so much laughter .Futsal has always been my favorite sport to play with friends, and I was really hoping time would slow down so we could play just a little longer. But I knew I had to head back to Kuala Lumpur on Friday to prepare for physical classes the following week.
Overall, even though my plans changed and I ended up heading home unexpectedly, I had an incredible time with my family and friends. It was a perfect mix of work, connection, and fun.
